GWC 10 port USB 2.0/1.1 HUB.
Over the years, I have purchased plenty of HUB’s to make life bit easer for plugging a USB device into the system, and if you are like me , you eventually give up and just try to plug the the darn device right into the port then trying to use the hub, cause some times the devices doesn’t function right, or gets disconnected when you pop in 2 or more devices, or it just doesn’t like bing plugin to a hub.
So here is a 101 truth about USB hubs and why most cheap ones fail. It all comes down to Power consumption by the USB device. So more devices you plug into the hub the more power it needs to run those devices. The more power hungry the device the less stable the USB transmission becomes.
I had given up on quest for USB hub, through out the years they had been more of hassle then convince, till I got my MAC mini. With only 4 ports available, and all of them located in the back in tight configuration, it’s just pain to plugin devices in and out. Time for decent USB hub that deliver what it promises on the BOX. I am quite please to say that I managed to find one. Priced well and reasonable under $25.
Results and bottom line:
We used a Mac mini for out tests. With the hub running on its own power source, it was able to support five 2.5 hard drives and three USB flash drive, and one Bluray-DVD burner all at the same time with out losing connection to any of the devices. Its also well designed. It has two ports on top of the device that flip out and can bend up to 90 degree to allow for easy access for plugin USB flash sticks, or any other cables or devices that need to be plugin quick and removed.
For it styling and design element they have done great job. Its nice to see that a company has taken a time to create something that not only works but also easy to use and very accessible relative to end-user experience.
